ARMAGEDDON occur?
E. Where do the rulers “of the whole world” deceived by the “three unclean spirits as it were frogs,” come together with "their armies" (Revelation 19:19), for "the WAR of the great day of God"?
1. The “revelation” made by God himself provides the answer. "And they gathered them together in the place which is called in Hebrew HAR-MAGEDON.” Revelation 16:16
2. The origin and meaning of the name “Armageddon.” In Revelation 16:16, “Armageddon” is the translation of the Greek Koinē: Ἁρμαγεδών. In Latin: Harmagedōn, a Word that is “a transliteration of the Hebrew Har Meguido, that is, "Mount Megguido."

What is the nature of the battle of Armageddon?
According to countless preachers, teachers, evangelists, pastors, and commentators, Armageddon is anticipated as a fierce carnal-material battle between, on one hand, Satan and the deceived nations, and, on the other, "the Word of God," that is, Jesus Christ with his "heavenly armies," opposing forces identified in Revelation 19:11-21.
However, along with other commentators, this writer is fully convinced that the use of "Armageddon" is purely symbolic, NOT in any way identifying any particular earthly geographical place, for example, Megiddo in northern Israel. Nor is any kind of carnal battle using man-made military material projected between the deceived nations and the authentically biblical church of Christ on earth. Nor between said nations and the "heavenly armies."
Dear reader, we invite you to consider some reasons that support this conclusion.
a) In the MATERIAL-CARNAL sphere, HUMAN BEINGS have formed countless earthly armies throughout history, fighting an endless number of carnal-material battles.
Parallelly, in the SPIRITUAL sphere, SPIRITUAL BEINGS have formed spiritual armies, fighting countless spiritual battles. For example: “Now there was WAR in HEAVEN: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels.” Revelation 12:7
On which of these two planes does “the battle of that great day… take place in the place which in Hebrew is called ARMAGEDDON”?
To rashly reply that “on earth, on the material plane,” ignoring the “spiritual plane” as if it did not exist, would not, we think, be done by the careful and objective scholar.
In this painting, coming on the crest of the gigantic blue-green wave are the “Armies of the EVIL ONE.” On the other side, the "Armies of HEAVEN" come from God against them. This striking artistic creation is typical of those depicting heavenly spiritual battles with a strong earthly, material, and carnal realism. Although such art may impress the human observer on earth, in reality, no painter on earth can depict the heavenly spiritual, since human beings cannot see or visualize the spiritual. Purely BIBLICAL SPIRITUAL WARFARE!
b) Let's reason a little. The true "battle" between God and Satan is conducted primarily on the SPIRITUAL PLANE, NOT on the material plane. Logically, it is, as is strongly evidenced by the "great battle in heaven" reported in the vision of the "woman clothed with the sun" and the "great red dragon." Revelation 12
This conclusion is reinforced by the wonderfully eloquent explanation given by the Holy Spirit through the apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 10:3-4.
Namely, Christians "DO NOT WAR according to the flesh, for the weapons of our WARFARE are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds [bad spiritual, mental, and philosophical ones, as the context requires they be understood], casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ..." 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
Expanding on the same concept of "SPIRITUAL BATTLE," the Holy Spirit graphically describes, in Ephesians 6:11-20, "the ARMOR of God." What is this "ARMOR of God"? Well, for certain, it is purely SPIRITUAL!
First, he explains the following:
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual wickedness in high places" (Ephesians 6:12), a precept completely in line with 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.
Then, he exhorts us to take up "the WHOLE ARMOR of God." Of what does such armor consist? Following is the divine answer.
"...having your loins girded with TRUTH... the BREASTPLATE of RIGHTEOUSNESS... having your feet shod with the PREPARATION of the GOSPEL of PEACE... the SHIELD of FAITH... the HELMET of SALVATION, and the SWORD of the SPIRIT, which is the WORD of GOD." Ephesians 6:13-20
To top it all off, the apostle Paul encourages us in Romans 13:12: “Let us put on the FULL ARMOR of
LIGHT.” Of "LIGHT.” Of "SPIRITUAL LIGHT." Absolutely, NOT of earthly, material, carnal weapons!
The true nature of “our warfare,” that is, of the “battle” raged by true Christians rigorously faithful to the spiritual General of their souls, whose name is the Lord Jesus Christ, is thus fully clarified. Ultimately and exclusively, our ONLY “BATTLE” is MENTAL, VERBAL, DIGITAL, WRITTEN, SPIRITUAL! Of dogmas, religious ideas, traditions, and practices, cosmic and world views, imaginations, revelations, philosophies, thoughts, authorities, different kinds of gospels, and ecclesiastical organizations, etc. NEVER STRIKING A PHYSICAL BLOW! NEVER PHYSICALLY PERSECUTING! NEVER SPILLING A DROP OF BLOOD!
Any human blood spilled in Armageddon will be that of wounded and martyred innocent pure Christians at the hands of fanatical, savagely angry, wild, mentally, emotionally, and morally deranged bigots who violently hate the Creator God and all people who identify with him. Pure Christians simply do not spill the blood of their persecutors. They did not during the first centuries of the true church, and they will not in Armageddon. Those martyred in Armageddon, however many they may be, will complete the number of projected “martyrs of Jesus.” Revelation 6:9-11; 17:6
What, then, of the churches, sects, and movements of Christianity that have had or still have their own earthly armies? That wage carnal warfare? Who involve themselves materially and militarily with secular political parties and governments, or with social-racial-cultural causes, instigating carnal activism and militancy, infringing secular laws, policies, etc., whether passively or violently?
These rapidly rising, shifting, intertwining, multicolored shafts of smoke and mists represent what happens in the bosom of “Christian” organizations and other religions that dare to ally the spiritual realm with secular-political-militaristic ones. Historically, THEOCRACIES are among the most oppressive and violent ruling powers. The maxim of the only True and Living God is that stated by his Son Jesus Christ: “My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight… but now is my kingdom not from here.” And his “servants” DO NOT “FIGHT” with material, earthly weapons! John 18:36
Frankly, in the light of all the foregoing information, it must be said of them that their bold disregard for explicit directives and examples from Jesus Christ and his only original apostles would be entirely evident to the properly educated and spiritually intelligent mind—a dangerous disregard supported by their distortions of fundamental doctrines and principles of the pure original gospel.

The Roman Catholic Church, whose Popes and other hierarchies had their own earthly army for many centuries, from the Late Middle Ages until September 20, 1870, when the armed forces of the Kingdom of Italy stripped the Roman Church of its Papal States. The Papal Swiss Guard, one of the longest-serving military units in the world, was formed on January 22, 1506. In 2025, it consisted of 135 members, with a Commander and other officers. All were highly trained in military combat, armed with pistols, rifles, and machine guns. In the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, Liberation Theology became very influential in some circles of the Roman Catholic clergy in Latin America. The Greek Orthodox Church. When the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great converted to Christianity in the early 4th century, he effectively took over leadership of the church in the Eastern Roman Empire, convening and dominating the First Council of Nicaea. For example, the Montanists of Phrygia, the Novatians, the Valentinians, and the followers of Paul of Samosata in Armenia.
