The “LITTLE WHILE” of Revelation 20:3-9
The VISIONS and PROPHECIES of Revelation transport us, through the “Dimension of Time,” to the FUTURE so that we may know the environments, entities, conflicts, and divine interventions of the extremely dangerous "LITTLE WHILE."
What an incomparable privilege is ours! To know, if even only in part, what will happen to our world in the last phase of its existence. To walk through the FUTURE as if it had already occurred and passed. To observe and learn. To witness events before they take place.
The only true and living God, the Omnipotent Creator and Sustainer of all that exists on every level and in every sphere, makes possible this amazing experience -we emphasize once more, through his PROPHECIES, providing them for us so that we may be duly instructed, forewarned, and prepare ourselves for eventualities that would impact us.
The real FUTURE of humanity and planet Earth, our assigned habitat, is certainly not that of mere speculations, educated or not, and theories, Darwinian evolution being one of them. Nor mathematical projections or spatial physics conjectures. Neither futuristic, phantasmagorical, horrendous movies and videos or ingeniously contrived novels and gory, extremely violent comic books. Certainly not the subjective, doctrinally contradictory
prophecies and visions of strictly human origin (of false prophets, prophetesses, science fiction authors, soothsayers, etc.). None of these, but only the REAL FUTURE which the Living, Creator God Himself foresees from the particular vantage points he chooses during the trans course of his creations through time and space.
Indeed, his own Sacred Scriptures reveal that he has seen beforehand the outcomes of his tremendous works, so vast and incredibly multifaceted. Also, the outcome of the works of human beings, as well as that of the works of Satan and the fallen angels who follow him. He imparts his knowledge of what is to come to the wise and understanding in heart. Once again, we exclaim with profound appreciation: What a tremendous privilege is ours! Only the knowledgeable, right-thinking, perceptive, open-minded, mature human being can make the most of it. Dear Reader, do you consider yourself to be such a person?
A. The "LITTLE WHILE" is identified for us in Revelation 20:3 and 20:7–9.
1. Satan was shut up in the abyss "so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a LITTLE WHILE." Revelation 20:3
2. "Now, when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison and
will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth." Revelation 20:7–8. Satan carries out this extremely pernicious and evil work among the nations after the “thousand years” (the Millennium) “HAVE EXPIRED.” Very specifically and unequivocably, he does so during the "LITTLE WHILE."
A dramatization of Satan coming out of the “PRISON” of the “ABYSS” where he was bound for a “thousand years.” If he were to come out literally, surely he would not do so as a fire-red, two-horned demon. More likely, as a powerful human presence such as the man walking resolutely out of the abyss in this video. In the video, he says to the world leaders around him: “Let us get down to business.” The "business" of deceiving "the NATIONS which are in the four corners of the earth."
B. The duration of the "LITTLE WHILE." First, let us note that the word "LITTLE” is an adverb of time, relative by nature. Second, from the events and circumstances that distinguish it, we deduce that the "little while" will not be a comparatively brief period—such as a few days—but rather long enough for Satan to deceive the nations, gathering them against God and His church for the final great conflict in Armageddon. Let us reason carefully and logically through this.
1. Satan will deceive "the kings of the earth and of the whole world" (Revelation 16:14) and "the nations that are in the four corners of the earth." Revelation 20:8. We call special attention to the phrases "the whole world" and "the four corners of the earth," which clearly refer to the entire globe of Earth rather than a small section, a limited territory, or a specific country. Logically, it is quite unlikely that a diabolical undertaking of such magnitude and scope could be carried out overnight, even under the most favorable conditions.
"…the whole world" and "the four corners of the earth." Given that Judea, Samaria, and Galilee covered, in the 1st century, an area roughly the size of the island of Puerto Rico, it does not seem reasonable to apply these expressions solely to first-century Israel.
2. Observing the juxtaposition of the "little while" on the one hand and, on the other, the "thousand years," it is to be reasonably inferred that the former would not be an extremely brief period—say, merely days, weeks, or even months—but perhaps a matter of years, decades, even a century or more. The word "little" stands in contrast to the "thousand years" and the entire Common Era.
Naturally, a very intriguing and highly relevant question arises, namely: Are we already living, in the first half of the 21st century, in that intellectually-philosophically-morally-spiritually somber and dangerous "little while?"
I, personally, venture the following answer. A qualified “NO.” For I understand that the religious, spiritual, social, political, and economic conditions prevailing today (2026 CE) on almost our entire planet demonstrate that we have not yet fully entered into the “little while.” My opinion is that we are going through a “Time of Transition” between the “thousand years” (the Millennium) and that lugubrious, highly secularized “little while.”
In particular, I would cite as compelling evidence the FREEDOM of WORSHIP still enjoyed by the overwhelming majority of the inhabitants of planet Earth, as well as the constitutional laws against religious persecution currently in force in almost all countries of the world.
3. How distant from us is the "little while" in its state of undeniable pervasiveness and general acceptance by the world population? Are we very close to entering fully into it now, in the first half of the 21st century?
a) My own perception: Perhaps “very close.” Maybe closer than I perceive, or somewhat less than I perceive.
b) Of one thing I am certain and it is that even in these days when Freedom of Worship is enjoyed by almost all of God's people, the multitudinous Followers of Satan are openly and aggressively, publicly and privately, nationally and internationally, digitally and cinema graphically, diligently and rapidly sowing the evil seeds of extreme secularism, hyper individualism, hedonism, a plague of vices, frauds, and crimes, social, sexual, and gender engineering, existentialism, atheism, humanism, Darwinian evolution, New
Ageism, theocratic governance, one-culture-ism, and other philosophies and agendas opposed to religion in general, and to Christianity in particular, cultivate the poisonous vines that sprout, grow, and entwine masses of humanity as uncontrolled kudzu does to fields and terrains of all kinds.
Spreading, flourishing, and multiplying on a grand scale, these noxious vines could very well smother the delicate, incredibly valuable plant called "Religious Freedom," producing in the future, perhaps not too distant, a "universal society" under the mantle of all the perverse "isms" that have ever existed, including Satanism and other occult sciences. In short, a "world society or culture" essentially governed by evil in all its forms, whether alluring and desirable, or repugnant and disgusting.
c) The following image presents Perspectives on the Short Time Preceding the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
d) In the section of this Commentary where we address the primary causes leading to the end of the Millennium, we examine more closely the malevolent machinations of contemporary individuals whose agenda is the overthrow of God, his “Kingdom (church) not of this world… not from here” (John 18:32), and the moral-spiritual code established by its Founder and King Jesus Christ.
C. According to the “Seven Chains of Prophecies in Revelation” that conclude with the end of Earth and Time, the period of the "LITTLE WHILE," once fully entered, will be a terrible time of severe spiritual conflicts, plagues, and planetary catastrophes. Everything will culminate with the spectacular intervention of God's "heavenly
armies," which will defeat, once and for all, the Forces of Evil, the “principalities… powers… world-rulers of this darkness… the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12), thus consummating "the mystery of God" and "the wrath of God." Revelation 10:7; 15:1
1. I, personally, understand that the intervention of the “heavenly armies” will be literal (real, physical), and the final destruction of the enemies of God and of the universe will be literal, that is: really going to happen, materially and physically.
2. The intervention of the heavenly forces is not merely figurative; neither is the final destruction of the enemies of God and of the universe.
3. This apocalyptic picture of a violent and literal (real) end, as bleak and terrifying as it may seem to us, agrees perfectly with the other prophetic texts of the Bible where the end of the material universe is the subject. Below, we note these texts, bolding the expressions that highlight the violent and literal end.
a) 2 Peter 3:7. "But the heavens and the earth which exist now, are reserved by the same word, kept for the FIRE on the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men." We will see that their “perdition” is not only spiritual but also physical.
b) 2 Peter 3:10. “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night; in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the
ELEMENTS WILL MELT with FERVENT HEAT; both the earth and the works that are in it WILL BE BURNED UP."
c) 2 Peter 3:12. "The heavens will be dissolved, being on FIRE, and the ELEMENTS WILL MELT with FERVENT HEAT."
d) Hebrews 12:26-27. "Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also heaven. Now this phrase, 'Yet once more,' indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken—as of things that are made—that the things which cannot be shaken may remain."
e) 2 Thessalonians 1:7-8. "When the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in FLAMING FIRE taking vengeance on those who do not know God..."
f) Romans 2:5-9. "You are treasuring up for yourself wrath for the day of wrath and of the revelation of the righteous judgment of God... wrath and indignation to those who are contentious and do not obey the truth... tribulation and anguish upon every human being who does evil."
g) Matthew 24:30. "Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven; and then all the tribes of the earth WILL MORN, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory."
