Will Planet Earth Continue Existing Eternally?
Only one KEY Bible verse is needed to understand and prove absolutely that IT WILL NOT. The verse is 2 CORINTHIANS 4:18.
“…while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the THINGS which ARE SEEN are TEMPORAL; but the THINGS which ARE NOT SEEN are ETERNAL.”
Since Planet Earth and the universe of which it is a part are "things" that can be "seen," they definitely “are TEMPORAL.” And, since they are temporal, they absolutely are not eternal!
Consequently, “the knowledge of his will [that of the Creator God] in all spiritual wisdom and understanding” (Colossians 1:9), demands that any religion, theology, or philosophy which asserts that they will continue existing eternally has to be classified as “WRONG, MISTAKEN, MISGUIDING” on a grand scale. For example, the relevant doctrines of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. In the light of this ONE KEY TEXT, just ONE, so simple and clear, all of their arguments affirming the "purification of this material Earth and its eternal existence as a new edenic paradise" fall apart and turn to gray dust, however convincing they might seem to minds not blessed with full “knowledge… spiritual wisdom and understanding.” Logic and COMMON SENSE dictate that all relevant Bible texts relating to the duration of Planet Earth be interpreted in the light of this one, elementary key text.
Dear reader, do you see how easy it is to learn and understand the fundamental teachings of the pure gospel brought by Jesus Christ from God the Father for the salvation of the whole world? John 8:26-40. The “KEY” is to recognize the KEY TEXTS. The plain and simple ones. So clear and straightforward that their meaning cannot be missed, and will not be missed by the honest, unbiased seeker of Divine Truth. Who will not be so rash as to dismiss them, trash them, deny them, disobey them, allowing false interpretations and personal opinions to trump them.
The RELEVANCE of this subject for your life and mine? By accepting that “the things which are seen are temporal,” that is, that matter is not inherently eternal, an affirmation seconded by large numbers of astrologists, physicists, and other scientists, I confront, basically, two options.
The first: That I be RESIGNED to the end, the cessation, the death, sooner or later, of all that is visible, even of all matter, whatever its form may be, including “DARK MATTER” and the smallest elements of atoms such as quarks and gluons. That I accept it, however reluctantly, as an inescapable reality but choose to believe that there are NO CONSEQUENCIES whatsoever for me after that definitive “END” of my physical life, that “END” of all things physical and material in the whole universe.
The second option: That I accept that “all things which are seen are temporal” and also its counterpart: “the things which are not seen are eternal.” That I accept both affirmations as HARD FACTS. And that I think long and hard about the significance and consequences of those FACTS. That I proceed to procure the ETERNAL. A concept which, thankfully, I have the mental and spiritual capacity to understand and appreciate if I set my mind to it. A power that, in and of itself, signifies that I am more-much, much more- than just a physical, material animal!
My own investigations of the “Dimension of the Eternal” include the Bible, especially the New Testament, where I see “eternity,” “the eternal,” the “everlasting,” set forth as a marvelous, highly desirable, attainable state for every human being who seeks “glory, honor, and immortality.” This “state” of eternal existence in a new, powerful, glorious, spiritual body, in a perfect “NEW EARTH” of a celestial nature I find to be infinitely superior to that “state of eternal nothingness” after the death of the physical body, a sad "state" held to be the endless, empty fate of those humans who choose not to believe in the “eternal” of the "only true God," the Creator. John 17:3
